This is life in a world unshaped by the supernatural. No monsters, no angels, no apocalypse. Just living.

The Story of Dean and Sam

Mary Winchester died in a house fire when her oldest son Dean was very young, leaving him and his brother Sam to the care of his father. John was devastated by the loss of his wife and threw himself back into his career, frequently leaving Dean and Sam behind- at first, with Bobby and Ellen, but by themselves as they got older. Dean grew up highly protective of his brother, more concerned with raising him and keeping their family together than anything else. Sam was smart, motivated, and in Dean's opinion, a little bit geeky.

Ellen and Bobby kept them on track- more on track than John ever did- and Dean went to vocational school to learn to be a mechanic, after Bobby. He put up money to help Sam through school. Sam went on to Standard, and met the girl of his dreams.

Everything was going well enough, until Sam's fiance Jessica was tragically killed in a house fire. Sam dropped out of college, and Dean took a few weeks off of work to help support him through it. The two of them went on an extended road trip, driving wherever they felt like it until Sam could get his head on straight. It took work, however, slowly but surely, things were turning out alright.

And then there was the accident.

John became obsessed with the the fire that consumed Jessica, immediately linking together several key pieces of evidence that it shared in common with the fire that killed Mary. At his frequent insistence, the three of them decided to meet to have a serious discussion about it all. Dean, equipped with Sam, picked up John and headed to the freeway. They were struck head-on by a drunk driver.

John was killed instantly, and Dean suffered a traumatic head injury, leading to a four-month coma.

Devastated by the loss of their father and the expected loss of his brother, Sam fell into a nose dive that no one could pull him back from. He once again dropped out of school, lost his scholarship, his home, and started dabbling in illicit drugs. Anything he could do to numb himself and forget. One night at a party he hardly remembered attending, he met a woman named Ruby who introduced him to even more addictive, more dangerous narcotics. He gladly followed her right into that Hell, cheerfully embracing his own destruction. In his mind, he had nothing left to lose.

Dean woke from his coma, shocking all his doctors, and while Sam came to see him a time or two, the visits always ended in fighting. Dean wants Sam to leave Ruby and get himself clean, but Sam just wants to forget.

Now, Dean struggles with the guilt of the accident, blaming himself and his inability to protect his brother or convince him to stop. The two fight frequently, and though Dean hasn't given up just yet, it weighs on him virtually all the time. He spends his life in an apartment, his days working at Bobby's garage and his nights connecting with Bobby, Ellen, Jo, and Sam, his family.

The story of Cas and Gabe

Cas was born into an affluent, extremely religious family. His upbringing was sheltered and strict; he and his brothers had limited exposure to the outside world as their father believed that the sins of the general public would taint their faith. He attended private schools where he excelled, though his education was skewed by his family's religious beliefs. It was all Cas knew, and he was comfortable living that way, never questioning his father's judgement. He was obedient. He was happy.

His mother, apparently, was not; depressed and isolated, she eventually took her own life sometime during Cas's early 20s, while he was in the process of becoming a priest. His father was killed in an accident a few years later, though there was some doubt as to whether it was truly an accident. This drove a wedge between Cas- who couldn't understand why the God he'd planned on devoting his life to had allowed this to happen- and his brothers- who insisted that he ought to have faith in God's plan.

After a few years of trying to connect with his family and continue his religious education- and failing miserably across the board due to his lack of faith- he dropped out of the seminary and moved as far away from them as possible, using the substantial amount of money his parents had left for him in their will. He spent time traveling, doing all of the things he was denied the chance to do as a child and avoiding his brothers' calls like the plague- as far as he was concerned they abandonedhim.

During his travels, he developed a fondness for the more pleasurable aspects of life- i.e. drugs, sex, and whatever else caught his attention. He also became interested in other religions other than the one he was raised in-- he's a deeply spiritual creature by nature, despite his bitterness toward the God he'd been raised to love and trust... Though it expresses itself now in a much different way than Sunday school. He's a bit of a hippy.

Currently he lives in an apartment, working short-term, low stress jobs in new-agey bookstores and coffee shops to pay the rent, having blown much of his inheritance on traveling. He remains estranged from his brothers- he'd tried to contact them individually but those calls hadn't gone well and he's trying to resign himself to the fact that they're not going to be welcoming him back into the family any time soon. Apparently their God's love and mercy doesn't extend to him anymore.

--
Gabriel was never quote "Daddy's Little Man" or anything even close to that. He had a tendency to get into trouble just about everywhere he went. He was openly passionate about coming up with his own grand plan and that didn't exactly mesh with the religious upbringing he had. His father believed in God and his almighty plan. Gabe thought that was a load of crap. One night after a rather intense debate at the age of nineteen things got more than a little heated. Gabriel assumed that him and his father were having a lively debate on creation, but his father saw it as anarchy in his home. A fight happened outside and eventually Gabe was told to just get out. He immediately went to stay with a friend and Sunday morning when he returned home his clothes were packed up in his room. He walked away.

Since then Gabe has jumped from job to job. He worked as a personal assistant to multiple people. This career helped him build traction with the executives and big name people. He eventually got a chance to have his own game show after quite a long time of paying his dues on that world. He's a game show host and he's never been happier with his life. He's got a nice house and a vacation house. He has cars that he treats like children. He's cut off from his family due to his father restricting access to them when he left. Rather recently Gabe has made an effort to get in touch with Castiel. He misses the runt and harassing just seems to be the appropriate thing to do at 37.
